PENNGROVE, Sonoma County — Sonoma Water has completed a hydraulic capacity evaluation of the Penngrove Sanitation Zone to assess whether its sewer collection system can handle peak wet-weather flows and projected development demand.
The agency says its analysis tested existing conditions and future growth scenarios against state sanitary-sewer discharge requirements adopted in 2022. Penngrove’s system collects wastewater and sends it by lift station to the City of Petaluma for treatment. The sanitation zone’s listed service area is approximately 475 acres; it does not operate its own treatment plant.
A capacity study is a technical assessment, not itself a decision to approve or reject a particular housing proposal. Individual developments can require connection permits, capacity review and other land-use approvals. Residents should not assume that published system figures mean additional projects have already been approved.
